YNET - The Spirit of Service
Overview
YNet or Youth Network aims to understand ‘the Other’ youth of different
religious, cultural, ethnic, socio-economic backgrounds in the wider
Australian community. Sai Young Adults are the nexus between various groups of youth through activities ranging from visiting places of worship and cultural
significance to organising large events. YNet is founded on the principle of Unity in Diversity.
The Spirit of Service is a Youth Encounter event of Affinity Intercultural Foundation. Sai Young Adults, as part of their YNET program, will participate in the next Youth Encounter event at the University of Western Sydney, Parramatta, on Saturday, June 14, 2008.
Consular Officials and other public dignitaries have been invited, and those who are willing to experience first hand the fruits of interfaith and inter-cultural dialogue in Australia will be attending.
The purpose of this dialogue is to harness the collective energy of young people from various Eastern faith traditions. This is solely for the purpose of understanding each others' faiths and for youth involved to have further opportunities for dialogue and action, building lifelong friendships which shall facilitate a culture of peace. For this dialogue, rather then relying on a few high-profile interfaith speakers as we always do, our aim is to cultivate the next generation. The dialogue is a joint collaboration between Affinity and YNet.
Affinity Intercultural Foundation was established by a group of young Australian Muslims in early 2001 in order to meet the needs of the Muslim community to interact with the greater society and the needs of the general public to increase its awareness of the Muslim community, its religion and culture.
YNet is an initiative of the Youth wing of the Sathya Sai Organisation of Australia and Papua New Guinea. The Sathya Sai Organisation aims to promote harmony and understanding of all the world faiths. This is achieved by the practice of the five universal human values of love, peace, truth, right-conduct and non-violence.
Together, Affinity and YNet are aiming for a fruitful discussion between the youth from different Eastern Faith traditions including Muslim, Hindu and Buddhist.
