Sathya Sai Organisation of Australia & Papua New Guinea ~ WHITE PAPER

The 80th Birthday of our beloved master and guide Sri Sathya Sai Baba is considered an appropriate time to plan the way ahead for the Sathya Sai Organisation in Australia.

What should our focus be over the period ahead?

How can we advance our spiritual way of living and advance the well being of our respective societies with renewed vigour and commitment?

In attempting to answer these questions we may first ask what the purpose of the Sai Avatar is. He has said that He has come to re-establish righteousness in the world on a firm footing. His life and works confirm this statement. However we must ask how we, His followers, are advancing this mission so clearly stated by Him.

Having regard for our Organisation in an Australian context, the following views are presented.

Firstly, Education in Human Values when introduced in all schools in a society has the capacity to positively and comprehensively change a nation for the better. As Sri Sathya Sai Baba says - when individuals change, society will change and when society changes the nation and world will change.

The Australian Sai Organisation will therefore:-

  • advance the development of the Sathya Sai School in Murwillumbah, NSW as a model for analysis and emulation by Education Authorities in Australia;

  • encourage devotees who are teachers to influence their own schools towards the introduction of EHV in particular through their own example and achievements;

  • assist Sai devotees to establish EHV programs for special needs groups, such as the Aboriginal communities and the U-turn project at Gympie for high school students with behavioural problems;

  • provide ongoing support for the Institute of Sathya Sai Education in Canberra, ACT. The principal activity of this Institute is to develop EHV programs for both children and parents, and to train teachers in EHV methodology.

Secondly, Australia is generally regarded as a successful multi-cultural, multi-religious society. The Sathya Sai Organisation will play a leadership role in developing unity of faith programs aimed at strengthening a sense of unity and understanding among the various religions practised in our country.

Our aim will be to focus on:-

  • the one omnipresent God,
  • the core values which are common to each religion, and
  • the concept of the 'Fatherhood of God and the Brotherhood of Man'.

We will develop innovative ways to draw young and old from each religion into service and social projects, giving participants a true experience of unity within the family of humanity.

Thirdly, to be effective and influential in introducing these nation building programs into Australian society, devotees themselves must endeavour to exhibit exemplary behaviour and conduct. Personally living the five values and demonstrating tolerance, forbearance, equanimity and selfless love will draw others to the Sai message. Individuals will also be drawn to a deeper understanding and experience of the truth of their being - that the omnipresent God resides in their heart.

Fourthly, giving compassionate, selfless service to those in need in society. Sri Sathya Sai Baba teaches that service is the highest form of spiritual practice and that service is love in action. Through service, we are humbled and inspired to see divinity in others. It is through service to society that the wider community will open their hearts and minds to the message and mission of the Avatar.

By focussing on these four aspects of our Organisation's activities and our personal spiritual practices, we will take a confident and outward looking approach to life. Selfless love should always remain the cornerstone for all activities in which devotees are involved, both within and outside the organisation.

With His Grace, the Sathya Sai Organisation of Australia and PNG through its members will play an active role in strengthening righteousness as a value in the culture of our society at large.

Yours in Sai Service,
Neville Fredericks,
Central Coordinator.
