Overview of 2008 National Service Retreat

The purpose of the Service retreat is to come together in the name of our beloved teacher Sri Sathya Sai Baba to understand the importance of selfless service in our own spiritual journey.

The objectives of this retreat are:

  1. To share knowledge and experience of service activities at regional, centre and individual level;
  2. To understand service from the teachings and perspective of our beloved Sai;
  3. To focus our attention towards an attitude of selfless service and to "Love all and serve all" without passing judgement;
  4. To inspire every individual with Baba's saying, 'Service to Mankind is Service to God';
  5. To raise awareness of our theme, 'BETTER LIVING IN SELFLESS SERVICE'.

Love expresses itself as service, and God is Love"—Sathya Sai Baba

By serving others, we see the divinity in them. Transformation of the self can be achieved only when the heart opens to the universe with unattached and unconditional love. This retreat is aimed at inspiring each devotee:

  • to serve and receive the transformation from humanity to divinity,
  • to be connected to God,
  • to be willing and to prepare to serve 24/7.

We will start by looking at Swami's teachings on service to humanity, and discuss how these teachings can be used to broaden our own knowledge of being benevolent.

We will then look at how we can move from serving as individuals to serving as a group to the community at large as an organization.

We also look at:

  • What has worked?
  • What did not work?
  • What could work?
