National Conference - Summary
The Sai National Conference concluded in Sydney, New South Wales on 24th March 2008. The Guest speakers and the performer/speaker from overseas were very impressed in the professional way the conference was conducted with lively programs and working sessions to inspire the participants to live righteously in society by practising values - the essence of the conference theme.
A record number of delegates (801) attended the conference. Dr Bill Harvey, member of Prasanthi Council, commended the hospitality extended to the overseas guests and was interested in the details in organising such a successful conference as this. A document is currently being prepared which will be a reference document for staging future Sai National Conferences in Australia.
The conference achieved its objective by eliciting values within us, and offering ways of practising them. These were further enhanced in working sessions where delegates were able to interact and seek clarifications. The speaker sessions were interspersed with musical items to elevate the spiritual atmosphere. Performances by the newly established National Sai Choir were particularly well received by all present.
Delegates were asked to give their feedback by completing a conference evaluation form.
These are currently being compiled and the learning from the various organising sub-committees will be provided to Rita Kugler, who will coordinate the next conference in Queensland.
A note of appreciation received from a delegate is provided here which is a reflection of the comments received from many delegates.
“Congratulations all round for such a wonderfully well-organised conference. I have never enjoyed myself more. The many blessings we received, the love of Sai shone though the whole Easter Weekend. The Sai Youth and children were inspiring & imbued the Sai principles. The buses to and from the venue were efficient, & made me less stressed by not having to drive and contend with the traffic. The calibre of the speakers was awe-inspiring and generated enthusiasm and dedication in attending as many of the workshops as possible. Much love was felt by all, and I am sure I smelt incense on Easter Sunday; so much was given to us attendees.
The work by all concerned was well received. I went away feeling as if I had been in Parthi!!! ”
We expect the Queensland conference in 2010 will take us to greater heights to inspire us further in practising Sai teachings in our daily lives. On behalf of all delegates our gratitude is expressed to the conference committee and their team of loving Sai service workers.

Buddha Pournima (Vesak, Wesak)
The day of Vaisakh Purnima, which usually falls in the month of May, is considered most sacred by Buddhists all over the world. This day is significant for three reasons. It was on this day that Gautama Buddha, the founder of Buddhism, was born as Prince Siddhartha at Lumbini in Nepal in 560 B.C. It is also the day when He attained enlightenment at Gaya in India, after years of search and enquiry into the causes and remedy for sorrow in the world. Thereafter, Siddhartha came to be known as Buddha, or the Enlightened one. He preached that desires are at the root of all sorrow and hence advocated the path of right conduct and the right use of senses as the way to enlightenment. He attained Unity with the Absolute (Nirvana) in 480 B.C., again on the day of Vaisakh Purnima. This auspicious day is observed as Buddha Purnima
The date given for this year's celebration in the Prasanthi calendar is Monday the 19th of May 2008. Local celebrations of this festival will be held in various regions in Australia by the Sathya Sai Organisation Centres and Groups.

National Walk for Values - Update
Preparations are in full swing for the first National Walk for Values in Australia on Saturday the 24 March 2007. After successful marches in Canada for the last four years, we will now have the opportunity in Australia to make our communities more aware of the five Human Values that encapsulate the teachings of Sai Baba. The time appears to be right for holding such events as the local organisers report, very strong, and in some cities, instant support from Local Government Councils and Police for the National Walk for Values.
We are planning National Walks for Values in Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney. The Sathya Sai School in Murwillumbah will also be part of the event. The various walks will be open to all and we welcome people from all religions, cultures and social groups to join us. However, we realise that this is our first National Walk and it is important to see the event as a long-term initiative of the Sathya Sai Organisation. The focus will therefore be on 'quality and not quantity', words so often repeated by Sai Baba to make us realise that for Him quality always comes first.
Though we will invite others to join us, our first responsibility is to make this a successful event attended by a maximum number of Sai devotees. By walking together and demonstrating our commitment to the five Human Values, we not only promote the teachings of Sai Baba but we will enrich our cities by our resolve to transform ourselves and thus the communities we live in.

National Walk for Values
Saturday, March 24, 2007
The Sathya Sai Organisation of Australia and PNG is conducting a National Walk for Values, in all states, on Saturday, March 24, 2007.
The National Walk for Values will provide an opportunity for all good-willing persons to come together and walk under the unifying theme of the five universal human values, that is, Truth, Love, Peace, Right Conduct and Non-Violence. Attention will be drawn towards all that is tolerant, caring, unifying and peaceful in society without seeking to promote any individual religion or philosophy.
The five human values of Love, Peace, Truth, Right Conduct and Non-violence encapsulate the teachings of Sai Baba and can easily be communicated to the wider community whilst respecting the differences in religions, cultures and lifestyles. Emphasising the five human values, and thereby the promotion of tolerance and unity through statements as 'Help Ever and Hurt Never' and 'Love All, Serve All', will have a profound public impact during a time that these values are increasingly in need in our society.
The National Walk for Values is a public acknowledgment of the five human values that express the inherent divinity present in each and every one of us.
News, information, brochures, registration forms and arrangements in each state will be notified on this website. For further information, contact Albert Barelds, email bareldsa [at] ozemail.com.au

2006 Australian National Conference
Program presented to Swami
Roger Packham (Chair of the Central Council) has visited Prashanti Nilayam and presented the Conference Program to Swami. His account of this visit is given below:
Dear All,
I arrived at the ashram on Saturday about noon. In the first Darshan in the afternoon, I had the programme I printed in Australia ready to give Him, but he did not come near. On the plane over, I had tidied up things and made it 'nicer', but could not print it out.
On Sunday morning, we waited from 6.30 to 10am, but Swami did not come at all - busy at stadium getting ready for sports day we think. Thus I then had time to reprint the programme, this time I used 'photo quality' paper, as it was the best I could get - it looked nice and was coloured, and would not fold easily.
On Sunday, swami walked up the Veranda between the rows of men, one row one side and two the other. I had a gap, so could move between the two rows on men on the side I was. I offered the programme to Swami flat in my hands, and He took it, and read it as He moved on along the row. Wonderful!!
The next morning, He again came up the rows of men. this time I was at the back of the two rows. He went straight past me without looking. At the end of the row, instead of going into the hall to come back as He did on Sunday, He turned around and came back down the rows of men. He passed me without looking again, but then stopped, was wheeled back to me and asked "Where are you from?" I said "Australia Swami. Are You happy with the Australian programme?" He replied as He was pushed on "Very Happy!". What a blessing.... He then went around the front of the men, so I was next to Him, and He smiled. The He again came back passed me very close on the way to His room.
The following day, he again came up the line of men, and again I was next to Him. Three days and three encounters, and the approval of our programme.
