All Work is My Work - Love@Work Bulletin №110

This festive season brings all prosperity to the people filling the granaries of the farmers with the newly-harvested grains in plenty. Not only the farmers, all people in general feel happy and enjoy this season. People attribute their happiness and prosperity to God. Where is God? God is everywhere. He is omnipresent--in you, above you, below you, and around you. He has no particular name or form. Neither has He birth and death. Only when there is birth will there be death also! Hence, God has no birth, no death! He is present in every living being as the embodiment of the Divine Atma. Man today is unable to realise that Atma Tattwa Atma Principle.Sathya Sai Baba, Christmas Day, 2009

The fact that God instantly appears in some form as soon as we call Him proves that He is ever constantly with us. Just as His presence is constant, let our call to Him be constant.

All Work is My Work - Love@Work Bulletin №105

"The glory of God is great. He is real, and He can be found ... Silently and surely, as you walk on the path of life, you must come to the realisation that God is the only object, the only goal that will satisfy you; for in God lies the answer to every desire of the heart."

Sincere practice of Love@Work helps us realise this supreme truth. Through simple repetitive actions Love, directed towards God, we are finding Him everyday. May these simple actions of love lead us not just unto finding Him but to verily become Him.

Sai Young Adults meet weekly and share their practice of Love in the Workplace. This sharing is then distributed to all participants in the Love@Work program in the form of a Weekly Bulletin called All Work is My Work.

Birthday Message from the Central Coordinator

The Central Coordinator of the Sathya Sai Organisation of Australia and Papua New Guinea, Mr Neville Fredericks, has given a message to all the residents of Australia and Papua New Guinea, on the occasion of the 84th Birthday of Sathya Sai Baba

On 23rd of November, we celebrate the 84th birthday of Sri Sathya Sai Baba, the Avatar of our age.

We may ask the question: What is the purpose of His Advent?

In His own words:

I have come to light the lamp of Love in your hearts, to see that it shines day by day with added luster.

I have not come to speak on behalf of any particular path, like the Hindu path.

I have not come on any mission of publicity for any sect or creed or cause; nor have I come to collect followers for any doctrine.

I have no plan to attract devotees into my fold or any fold.

I have come to tell you of this universal unitary faith, this principle of the Universal Godhead, this path of love, this foundation of love, this duty of love, this obligation to love.

His teachings inspire us to believe in ourselves, to love ourselves for our inherent goodness, and from that firm foundation, we can see the goodness, the Godliness inherent in others.

His teachings give us the framework and the practices that we might follow to transform our lives, to become loving, tolerant and exemplary citizens of our country, concerned for the welfare of all.

Let us use this occasion of Sai Baba’s birthday to focus our attention on this most important of His teachings: the Expression of Universal Love, within our families, our homes, our workplaces, our communities, for what we are in Truth is Divine Love itself.

"It shall be my endeavour to reveal Thee in my actions,
knowing it is thy power gives me strength to act."
- Tagore (Gitanjali)

Being in the constant awareness of knowing that SAI is the doer is an immensely strong sadhana by itself. This constant awareness of God needs to be developed by constant spiritual practice. This practice is L@W. L@W helps us to not only be in His thoughts but also to realise that HE is the doer.

He is the one who gives us the strength to act,
He is the one who gives us the strength to Love,
He is the one and the only source of all that we are,
He is our most beloved Sai.

Love Sai.

By saturating work with love, it can be transformed into worship. When such work is offered to God, it gets sanctified into puja (sacramental worship). This makes it free from ego. It is also freed from the earthly desire for success and the earthly fear of failure. When you can feel that when you have done the work as best as you can, your puja is complete. It is then for Him who has accepted the puja to confer on you what He considers best. This attitude will make the work unattached. Regular practice of this discipline will render the consciousness clear and pure. Without this practice, however prospective your career might be, however much you may accumulate the wherewithal of a comfortable life, to whatever heights of authority you may have climbed through the exercise of intelligence, your gains shall be nothing, unless your every activity is suffused with the Divine purity, that is inherent in consciousness. - Divine Discourse, Mar 6, 1977.

Buddha (Vaisakh) Pournima Celebrations 2009

Information has been received which indicates that this year's Buddha Pourinima will be celebrated in the divine physical presence of Baba on the 8th and 9th May 2009, probably in Whitefield.

The day of Vaisakh Purnima, which usually falls in the month of May, is considered most sacred by Buddhists all over the world. It is on this day that Gautama Buddha, the founder of Buddhism, was born, the day He attained enlightenment after years of search and enquiry into the causes and remedy for sorrow in the world and it also the day He attained Unity with the Absolute. This auspicious day is observed as Buddha Pourinima.

2009 Eduction Retreat
National Education Week, 2009

At the Education Retreat held in Canberra in August 2007, it was agreed that during the 3rd week in August of every year, the Australian Sai Organisation will celebrate "Education Week". Our focus during this week will be on Sathya Sai Education which involves all the five wings of the Organisation. This year the National Education week is scheduled from 17th to 23rd August 2009.

The Education Week will be preceded by Education Retreat that will be held in Canberra during 15th & 16th of August 2009. The theme for this retreat is "Pathways to Self-Discovery".

There is a call for Abstracts, and a flyer about the retreat is available for download.

Further informaation and registration forms for this retreat will be available shortly.

Further information about the retreat will be available on the Institute of Sathya Sai Education Website.

Suggested activities for the Education Week:

The theme is on Sathya Sai Education and not on Sai Spiritual Education (SSE). The aim of the week is for all devotees to gain a thorough understanding of how Sathya Sai Education weaves into every activity of every Wing within the Organisation. Therefore, intense focus and participation by all the wings in the National Education Week is highly recommended.

Discussions, reflections, workshops or talks are some suggested activities to fully raise awareness on the following:

  • Spiritual Wing - How study circles and Dynamic Parenting workshops lead to self-discovery
  • Education Wing - How SSE classes for all the groups help not just the children but also the teachers in self-discovery.
  • Service Wing - How social service is a pathway for self-discovery.
  • Ladies Wing - How Love@Home program is a pathway for self-discovery.
  • Youth Wing - How Love@Work program is a pathway for self-discovery.

National Walk for Values

National Walk for Values Logo

On Saturday, March 28, Walks for Values were held in Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Melbourne and Sydney. Perth held its Walk on Sunday, March 29, as this suited local condtions better.

Over 4000 peoples from all walks of life celebrated the five human values of Truth, Right Conduct, Love, Peace and Non-violence. These values are the core values promoted by Sathya Sai Baba in his teachings and talks. It is these values which give true humanness, and give a life suffused with peace and harmony, and a peaceful co-existence among all persons, cultures, societies and nations.

Society and the individual are inextricably linked, and the individual's welfare is bound up in the welfare of society as a whole. Secular society can only function well when the values are practiced and honoured by individuals. The laws which govern society are based on the five human values. In commerce and business there is a great reliance on adherence to right action and truth. Trust in each other quickly diminishes if truth is not practiced.
Neville Fredericks, Central Coordinator, Sathya Sai Organisation of Australia and PNG, in his address to the National Walk for Values

The simple act of holding up placards and banners with the five values is enough to remind all who see them that these are fundamental to what and who we are as human beings and as Australians. They enhance all aspects of our society - personal, family, work, sport and governance, and the walk celebrates these in a fun and interactive way. Their practice helps to achieve a just and sustainable society despite its increasing complexity and ongoing change. So as we walk, let us all reflect on these values, and how we can demonstrate them to others through our daily actions at home, at work and in all our relationships. Professor Roger Packham, University of Western Sydney

National Walk for Values

National Walk for Values Logo

On Saturday, March 28, Walks for Values will be held in Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Melbourne and Sydney. Perth will hold its Walk on Sunday, March 29, to suit local needs.

Each of these walks will carry banners, placards, leaflets, balloons and have musical accompaniment with bands, drummers, and dancers. The walks will promote and celebrate these five values which are inherent in all Australians. It is in this spirit of celebration, that we will draw attention to the values, towards all that is tolerant, caring, unifying and peaceful in society without seeking to promote any individual religion or philosophy.

Our National Walk for Values is not only service to Australian society and culture, it is also service to the one who is resident in every one's heart. We are not separate from society, for whatever we do for society, we do for ourselves. With every step in our Walk for Values we promote the values and deepen our understanding of who and what we are. It is only when we know who and what we are that we can take the message of Sai to the wider community. This is nation building, for the five values are latent in us all, which resonates in our hearts as we walk.

Economic and social change without spiritual transformation will be of no value; society will only prosper when the five values are elicited, practised and celebrated. Sai has said, 'About me, there is no need to speak; spread the message of the five values'. The Walk is an avenue for us to take Sai's teachings to the community.

These are times of challenge for all Australians. Recent bushfires in Victoria, floods in Queensland, and economic challenges have confronted all Australians. Now is the appropriate time for Australians to hear the message about the five values and celebrate the inherent goodness they reveal. This is nation building in which we will celebrate and draw our communities to the urgent need to practice and live up to the five values.

We encourage all Sai devotees, as far as practicable, to join with their family and friends in this walk to demonstrate their belief in the five human values. Those participating are kindly requested to register, if they have not done so already, in the Walk online at www.nationalwalkforvalues.org , or at centers and groups where registration forms are available. This will assist the organisers to plan the event effectively. Those who are unable to pre-register can also register on that day at the venue for the Walk.

2010 Sai National Conference

The next Sai National Conference will take place in Sleeman Sports Complex, Brisbane from 11th June to 14th June 2010. The conference organizing committee has selected the theme: ONE - CELEBRATE THE EXPERIENCE.

The theme covers a broad spectrum of spirituality, beginning with Unity of Thought Word and Deed (the oneness) and the ultimate to be One with Divinity. The heart of the theme is Swami's axiom "There is only one religion, the religion of love; there is only one language, the language of the Heart; There is only one cast, the caste of humanity; there is only one God, He is omnipresent." The attached flyer provides these details.

Victorian Bushfires

The recent bushfires in the state of Victoria have caused massive loss of life and property. This is the worst natural disaster that has claimed many lives. Many towns Northeast of Melbourne are completely destroyed which includes Kinglake, Marysville, Narbethong and Strathewen.

We reach out to the many Victorians who have lost friends, family and loved ones, and those who have lost their homes or suffered terrible injuries. We send our Love and prayers to all those affected by the Victorian fires.

The Commonwealth and Victorian State Governments have commandeered all resources at their disposal to contain the bush fires and offer assistance to the victims. They have set up a Victorian Bushfire Appeal Fund along with the Red Cross, and the majority of Australians are donating to this fund and to other relief agencies.

The National Service Coordinator along with the Victorian Regional chairs will coordinate all assistance the Sai Organisation can provide to these victims. Our aim is to identify a few families that we could help to re-establish their lives over the next 6 months or so. We feel that this is more in keeping with our objective to give Heart to Heart Service. The National Service Coordinator will also coordinate the efforts of Sai devotees in Victoria and beyond for donating blood.

Sai devotees who are interested in providing assistance can either send their donations through the established charities announced in the media OR can channel their donations through the Sai Organisation. Funds received by the Trust will be used for the long term assistance that will be provided through the Victorian Sai Organisation.

Those interested in contributing through the Sai Organisation are requested to send cheques/money orders made payable to SRI SATHYA SAI WORLD FOUNDATION, AUSTRALIA with a note to indicate that it is for the Victorian Bushfire relief fund and should include donor's name and his/her residential address. Mr. Anandakumar will acknowledge all payments received.

All cheques/money orders with the note containing the details above (Victorian Bushfire, donors name and residential address) are to be sent to:

N. Anandakumar
43A Wentworth Road
Strathfield NSW 2135.

Donations to provide assistance to the Bushfire victims will be received till 31st of March 2009.

Central Coordinator's Birthday Message

83rd Year of the Advent of Sri Sathya Sai Baba

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Sri Sathya Sai Baba has gifted humanity with a continuous flow of Love and Divine teachings for more than seven decades. His discourses will become the Holy Scriptures for all of mankind for centuries to come. Sai Baba's teachings lead us to accept that man's true nature is Divine—Truth, Goodness and Love—and His declared task is to bring all of humanity to this realisation.

The totality of Divine Energy has come as Sathya Sai unto humanity to wake up the slumbering Divinity in every human being.

"I will not forsake you. I have come to help, to accompany and to carry you. I can never forsake you. I will never fail in my duty to my children; but I shall be very grateful to each child of mine who helps in My task." (My Baba and I Page 170)

Baba has given so much to us, how then can we help in His mission?

The answer to this question lies in the heart of each one of us.

Swami says that the greatest contribution one can make to society is to be a caring and dutiful citizen, keeping an optimistic and positive view of life no matter how dark the storm clouds may appear. If we accept that - not a leaf falls without His will - where then is the need for fear and despair?

This is really about giving positive energy and Love out to society - the most important way to help Him in His mission.

Love is the greatest gift one can give.

On the occasion of His 83rd Birthday, may our gift to Him be our love for all.

Sai Ram!
Neville Fredericks

Change of Chant at the conclusion of Devotional Singing

At at event to mark the anniversary of the Central Trust in Prasanthi Nilayam, Sathya Sai Baba had a private two hour session in the Mandir on 31st August 2008 with Sai students and staff working in His various institutions. One of the points Baba mentioned was to change the chant after Arati from Loka Samasta Sukino Bhavantu to Samasta Loka Sukhino Bhavantu.

The Sathya Sai Organisation has now been formally advised with a confirmation of this change from one Director of the Sri Sathya Sai World Foundation, (Dr Narendranath Reddy). Sai Centres and Devotional Groups are requested to chant Samasta Loka Sukhino Bhavantu (meaning Let all the worlds be happy) at the end of devotional singing session instead of Loka Samasta Sukino Bhavantu.

A sound recording of this chant may be listened to here.

National Service Retreat - Report

The retreat held in Melbourne over the last weekend of August was an outstanding success. This was an historic event as it was the first National Service event to be held in Australia.

It paved the way for the Sathya Sai Organisation to look anew at Sathya Sai Baba's teachings and mission. His maxim "Love all, Serve all" was exemplified by our Melbourne hosts. Their work combined with an inspirational programme, uplifted and inspired all who attended.

Delegates were asked to take Swami's message of selfless service to their Centres and Regions with renewed energy. Firstly, by focusing on His teachings about Service as a Spiritual Practice. secondly in giving personal service at all times, and finally by giving disciplined loving service in our formal Centre Service Programmes.

Service within our organisation should be seen in the same light as service in Society. In this regard, the best exemplars of selfless service are our tireless SSE teachers who inspire with their skill, dedication and love as they carry out the sacred task of building faith and character in our children.

Swami blesses Service Retreat Program

The program for the 2008 Service Retreat has been finalised and was blessed by Swami on Wednesday 30 July, exactly one month prior to the retreat opening.

Albert Barelds tells the following story from yesterday in Prashanti Nilayam...

I printed out the program this morning and took it to darshan this afternoon. I prayed inside the mandir for Swami to bless the program and resolved that it seemed best to have the yellow front sheet again on top and then talk to Swami about it.

He (Swami) came straight to the veranda and after 1 minute or so inside the room He came down the inside corridor of the veranda. I was sitting at my usual spot against the pillar opposte the door to the back entrance of the temple and held up the green folder when Swami came closer. When He was in front of me I sat on my knees and Swami allowed me to put the folder opened on His lap, the yellow front sheet on the left and the program on the right side of the folder. I explained to Swami that although He had blessed the retreat last week, that we would like Him to also bless the details of the program. He looked first at the front sheet on the left and then scanned the program and He said 'Yes, yes!'

Some Pre-Retreat reading is offered, and these readings will form the foundation of the group work to be done during the retreat. There is a web page available with many discourses by Sathya Sai Baba on the topic of Selfless Service. You may visit the retreat readings page.

The 2002 International Service Conference held in Prashanti Nilayam in July of 2002 was added to the retreat readings page on 31 July 2008. Here is a direct Download link.

Spiritual Transformation Program (STP)
Launch in New South Wales and Victoria

A person once told Dr. Johnson, the famous English thinker, that he could seldom get time to recite the Name of God, what with the hundreds of things he had to do from morning till nightfall and even far into the night. Dr. Johnson replied with another question. He asked how millions of people found space to live upon the face of the earth, which is two-thirds water and the rest is too full of mountains, deserts, forests, icy regions, river beds, marshes and similar impossible areas. The questioner said that man somehow struggled to find living space. So too, said Dr. Johnson, man must somehow find a few minutes a day for prayer to the Lord. Divine Discourse, Shivarathri, 1955

The Self Transformation Plan (STP) was formulated using the Sai Warriors program of the youth as the basis and was made available to all devotees in June 2006. This program was initially implemented in Willeton Centre, WA. Based on their learning in implementing STP, Jeothish Babu (chair, Willeton Centre) and James Heng (National Spiritual Wing Coordinator and member of Willeton Centre), prepared modules and other relevant material for its implementation. These were made available to all Spiritual Coordinators who attended the relevant workshops/ meetings at the Sai conference in Sydney and the process of facilitating STP was also discussed.

Participants were impressed and were keen to implement in their regions, in particular the Spiritual Coordinators of the four regions in New South Wales and Victoria. Impromptu meetings were held which resulted in the formal launch of the program in Melbourne on the 21st June and on the 22nd June in Sydney. Dr Pal Dhall, chair Zone 3 and Director ISSE Australia, was the keynote speaker at Melbourne. He said that each one of us must realize our good fortune in being contemporaries of Baba and to have known Him. Swami has inspired millions of people worldwide to practise human values in their daily lives. The Central Coordinator, Mr Neville Fredericks, was present at the launch in Sydney and stressed the importance of self transformation as the primary mission of the avatar having taken this human form.

About 100 participants attended the Melbourne launch and 80 have shown interest in participating in STP. In Sydney about 150 participated and 120 have registered to participate in phase 1 of the program. Participants were enthusiastic and one of the feedbacks received is given below:

"Thanks for your leadership in putting such a wonder transformation plan in place. It is interesting to know that all modern resources are now being used to induct basic human values that people have forgotten and justify their lapse on lack of time, irrelevance and indoctrination.

No one would believe that the path to spirituality could be structured so precisely with clearly established goals and achievable simple tasks. No amount of words or actions could sufficiently thank those who were involved in presenting such a wonderful "Pathway to God"; nevertheless we thank them for such an overwhelming contribution."

Appointment of Green Officers at Regional level

Currently, modern technology, increase of earning power, sharp increase in consumerism, are all together causing serious problems to the environment. Humanity has become so powerful that we appear to be doing irreparable harm to the Earth.

As a part of the ceiling on desires program of our organisation we intend to minimise our consumption of energy, water and to live harmoniously with nature. To achieve this, each regional coordinating committee is requested to appoint a "Green officer" who will function as part of the service wing. They will liaise with the Education and Spiritual wings in their region to educate members on the need to practise ceiling on desires program and in interactive sessions (study circle) discuss how best the COD program could be implemented at the individual and organisation level.

Green officers would focus on:

  • Tips on saving water.
  • Composting kitchen and garden refuse.
  • Avoiding the use of plastic bags
  • Recycling batteries and ink cartridges.
  • Turning computers off when not used or lights off when the room is not occupied.
  • Boiling just enough water for the needs instead of filling the kettle.
  • Recycling bottles, cans etc.
  • Pooling cars for commuting
  • Environmental Management awareness
  • Use of Green Power
  • Use of pesticides
  • Avoiding/ minimising the use of disposable cutlery and crockery at functions organised by Sai Organisation.

For further details please contact the National Service Wing Coordinator, Neelika Kottachchi. You may use our contact page on this website to contact the National Service Coordinator.
