Many people are disheartened by the fear that such merger is beyond their reach in this Kali age, however much they may try. But, this is a type of weakness and nothing more. It is not a question of the path of yoga adopted; whatever the yoga path, if one has Faith in Oneself and Faith in the sacred scriptures, the goal is bound to be won. Some pretend to have Faith in both, all the while doubting them in the heart of hearts. Each one can discover for himself the measure of his faith by the results. If the experience of merger is absent, it is due to the absence of these two. They must be in one, as the very breath of existence. Then only can they succeed in Sadhana and attain the unity, Oneness. Of course, those without Faith are without anything. They cannot benefit by advice. The present state of affairs is due to men losing Faith in themselves and in the sacred scriptures. Even those who claim to have the Faith do not conduct themselves according to the scriptures and nourish them. Consequently, Goodness and the Truth quality have gone out of the world and wicked habits and degradation have gained the upper hand. If this atmosphere is to be transformed, and if the world must enjoy security and peace, every pious God-fearing person, must cultivate Faith in himself and in the sacred scriptures and practise in one's own life the disciplines enjoined in those scriptures. Naturally, some modifications may have to be made out of consideration for the place, time and individual, but, the fundamental outlook and significant meaning should not be changed. The means by which those ideals are to be reached may be changed, but not the ideals themselves.

Three types of activity reach God and earn His Grace.
- Activity not prompted by personal desire,
- Activity emanating
from unselfish Love and
- Prayer arising from pure hearts.
These are the items to which the Lord pays heed; they reach God
direct. The rest are the concern of deities who preside over their disposal.
Therefore, prayers have to be unselfish, saturated with Love, and free from the
taint of "attachment to the gift that the prayer would bring."
The word Sastra that is frequently used to indicate scriptures means
"that which commands, orders, directs with authority". "Before
eating food, cook it well; before sowing seeds, prepare the soil through
ploughing" - the Sastras need not contain such orders. Who commands and
where is that command laid down that the new-born calf shall seek food at the
udder of the mother cow where it is already stored to appease its hunger pangs?
Birth takes place along with sustenance for the being born. As a
matter of fact, the sustenance is ready first and the birth of the individual
to be sustained takes place later. The individual's food and standard of living
are dependent on the merit or demerit accumulated in previous lives while
struggling for these two. He uses his intelligence to overcome the obstacles
and cultivate the skills needed to succeed in this struggle. But, the really
valuable guidelines for human progress are beyond the understanding of man and
even the capacities of his intelligence. Nevertheless, the characteristics of
his conduct and behaviour, his attitudes and aptitudes are delineated in the
Vedas, and demarcated in the Sastras. Activity is as essential scriptural lines
as they are for humans in the worldly level. The learned should realise that
activities recommended in the scriptures promote the best interests of man here
and lead to peace and harmony in the hereafter. Sathya Sai

Physical afflictions are temporary like passing clouds. Life is a Challenge, Meet It; Life is Love, Enjoy It; Life is a Game, Play it! You have to play the game of life in the right spirit. I have been doing the same. I have absolutely no pain. Generally, the pain arising out of hip fracture is unbearable. But, I am unaffected by injury to any organ of the body, leave alone the hip. Suffering arises when you identify yourself with the body. I have no pains since I have no body attachment. I take delight in your love. Your prayers are responsible for My speedy recovery. In all the corners of the world devotees have been praying intensely. Through prayer you can achieve the impossible.Sathya Sai Baba, Puttaparthi, 5 July 2003

It has been said that there is vast difference between the impact of Brahma Vidya (Knowledge of Brahmam) and the impact of Karma (activity). Merit and demerit, happiness and misery, are the consequences of Karma. The happiness attainable by man through Karma ranges from the Manushya Loka level (the region of humans) up to the highest stage of Brahma Loka (the region of the Divine). So, too, below the level of the human region, there are regions where misery becomes deeper and deeper, more and more agonising. They are relatively unreal and not absolutely real. The Awareness and the Bliss therefore is innate, existing in its own right. It is externally present. It is the one unchanging, unaffected Truth. It cannot be acquired by practising prescriptions and exercises. The state of Liberation (Moksha) transcends the body-mind-ego complex. Therefore, the transcendence is beyond one's physical, mental or intellectual effort. When Awareness dawns, the darkness that is absence of wisdom (Ajnana) disappears. When the lamp is lit darkness is no more.

It is published from Prasanthi Nilayam (the Abode of Highest Peace) and acts as a mouthpiece of Baba's Ashram as it speaks of the important events that take place in His sacred Abode, besides carrying Divine Messages conveyed through Divine Discourses of Sathya Sai Baba. This new website provides an easy methodology for subscriptions and renewal both for printed magazine as well as its interactive e-copy.

Presentation by Children from Australia
Children from Australia presented a music programme and skit entitled "Australia Dreaming". The theme of the programme is to show the unity between the rich and ancient aboriginal culture of Australia and the timeless teachings of Sathya Sai Baba. The programme started with an introductory talk by Ms Sheila Nagaratnam who narrated the backdrop of the pilgrimage and Baba's instructions to her on an interview many years ago.
The children presented stuffed animals to Baba as a representation of the animals of the country. They started the music programme with sanskrit lyrics seamlessly moving on to English. Quoting lines from the Holy Bible appropriate to the age we live in, they sang a song on Nirvana supported by some very good instrumental rendering.
They followed this up with a skit based on an Aboriginal Dreamtime story on how the Kangaroo got its pouch which on a deeper level expounded the human values of Love, Compassion and Sacrifice through some of Australia's unique and lovable wildlife, including the kangaroo, wombat, koala and emu.
The children concluded the programme with a famous Australian song which evokes the rich spirituality of the traditional people of Australia and their deep connection to Nature, "We are one, but we are many". The participants were honoured with gifts and prasadam was distributed to the assembly.

Devotees! Only chanting of the divine Name can protect you. Money and power are like passing clouds. Don't clamour for them. One may join politics and attain some position of authority, but how long can one remain in power? Any moment, one may be dislodged from power. One should not get carried away by politics; instead one should take refuge in the divine Name. He alone is truly blessed and meritorious whose heart is filled with the divine Name.
People who do not relish the divine Name may make fun of you. Somebody may tell you there is no God. What should be your reply? "He may not exist for you but He exists for me. Who are you to deny the existence of my God?" No one has a right to deny God. Never forget the divine Name, wherever you are and under any circumstances.

Embodiments of Love!
Every man expects the New Year to confer on him peace, happiness and prosperity. New Year does not bring happiness or sorrow with it. Yesterday is the same as today and today is the same as tomorrow. Days are the same, but one experiences either pleasure or pain depending on one's own actions. Meritorious deeds will not confer misery and sinful deeds cannot give happiness. One is bound to face the consequences of one's actions. But one treats pleasure and pain alike when one becomes the recipient of God's grace. God's grace destroys mountains of sins and confers peace. But due to the impact of Kali Age, man has lost faith in God. He is after money and power. How can such a person attain Divinity? Man can rise from the level of the human to the Divine only by practicing human values.
Years come and go, so also pleasure and pain. Nothing confers permanent bliss except the experience of the Atma. Man cannot attain peace and happiness from his actions unless he has sacred feelings within. Many people expect the New Year to confer happiness and prosperity on them. But in fact, New Year only confers on you the results of your past actions. In order to atone for your past sins, you have to cultivate sacred qualities and involve yourself in sacred activities more and more in the New Year. In fact, Bliss is within you, it originates from your sacred feelings. So, you have to manifest bliss from within—it cannot be bestowed on you by others. None can take away the bliss from you and you cannot obtain it from outside.

Twenty hammer-strokes might not succeed in breaking a stone; the twenty-first stroke might break it. But, does this mean that the twenty blows were of no avail? No. Each of those twenty strokes contributed its share to the final success; the final result was the cumulative effect of all the twenty-one. So too, the mind is engaged in a struggle with the world, both internal and external. Needless to say success might not always be your lot. But man can attain ever-lasting bliss by getting immersed in good works and by saturating the mind with the love of God. Infuse every moment of life with that love. Then evil tendencies dare not hamper the path. Since his mind ever dwells with the Lord, he will be drawn automatically towards good deeds only. The object of all Sadhana is the destruction of the mind and some day, some one good deed will succeed in destroying it, just as the twenty-first blow broke the stone. For this triumph, all the good deeds done in the past have contributed; each little thing counts; no good deed is a waste.
While struggling in the spiritual field, you should take God Himself as your protector. To instill courage in the child, the mother persuades it to walk a few steps and turn about, but she will not allow it to loose balance, she hurries from behind it and catches it ere it falls. The Indweller of the Heart too has His Eyes fixed on the spark of divinity whom you are. He has in his hand the string of the kite which is man; sometimes, he may give it a pull, sometimes, he may loosen the hold; but whatever He does, be confident and carefree, for it is He that holds the string. That faith ever present, that feeling hardening into a certainty encircling your soul, will fill you with the endless dance of Divine Love. Sathya Sai Baba, Prema Vahini

Three types can be recognised among those who seek to do good deeds and tread the path of self-realisation.
- Those who are too frightened by the troubles, losses, and difficulties, to begin the endeavour; they are of the lowest type.
- Those who, after having depressed and defeated by obstacles and disappointments and who therefore give up, in the middle. They are of the middling type.
- Those who steadfastly adhere to the path with calmness and courage, whatever the nature of the travel, however hard the road; those are, of course, of the highest type.
This steadfastness, this faith and constancy is the characteristic of the devotee.
Deluded by attachment to this illusory world and attracted by temporary joy, do not barter away the means of achieving permanent and complete happiness. Carry on your spiritual duties with full devotion.
Paramatma cannot be known without faith and steadfastness; Only through Love comes spiritual effort; only through spiritual effort comes wisdom; only through wisdom comes Parabhakti - the highest devotion; only through the highest devotion is Paramatma attained. Sathya Sai Baba, Prema Vahini, Ch 11

There are three terms to be discussed here. "Conscience" is one, the other is "conscious" and the third is "consciousness". This consciousness is the all encompassing Divinity. From this all-pervasive consciousness, conscience enters the body. The Atmic principle in your body is conscience. Conscious is the awareness related to the body and the senses. Children play with balloons. These balloons keep blowing to larger and larger size until they burst and the air inside merges with the air outside. So long as the air is in the balloon, it is conscience. When it exceeds the limitations of the wall of the balloon and merges with the air outside, it becomes consciousness. These days people are merely in the body conscious state. The body is like a balloon, a water bubble. The mind is a mad monkey. Don't follow the body or the mind. Follow the dictates of the conscience. Today people are attached more to the body and less to the Atmic principle. Absence of self-confidence is the main cause for all types of weakness. People depend on their wealth, possessions and power, but do not depend on the Self. Sathya Sai Baba, Values Conference, Prashanti Nilayam, 26 September 2000

One feels happy when one has the knowledge that this one little body is his, does he not? Then when he knows that two bodies are his, should he not be twice happy? In the same way, with the knowledge that he has an increasing number of bodies, the experience of happiness goes on increasing. When the whole world is known to be one body, and world-consciousness becomes part of the awareness, then the Bliss will be full. To get this multiple consciousness, the limited egocentric prison walls must be destroyed. When the ego-self identifies itself with the Soul (or Atma), death will cease. When the ego-self identifies itself and merges with the Bliss of the One, sorrow will cease. When it merges with Jnana or the Higher Wisdom, error will cease. "Material individualness is born out of delusion. This body which creates that impression is only an ever-evolving atom of a boundless ocean. The second entity in me is the other Form, namely, the embodied Self. When the ego of mine merges with the Self in me, then the delusion disappears, through the upsurge of its opposite knowledge."

Once a person came to Me and argued that there was no God and he was not prepared to believe in one, Well, I asked him, "Have you faith at least in yourself? Which is your self? Your self is God. You have faith in your judgment, your intelligence, your ability, because God within you tells you not to falter or fear. That assurance wells from within, from your basic Truth, which is otherwise called God. It does not matter if you do not call it God; it is enough if you believe in Yourself; that is the real test of theism," I told him.

Baba : This is the grace begotten of my
love for them reciprocated by their devotion. After all, as I repeatedly say,
we all belong to the same Divine Principle. The Godliness which is present in
everybody in the form of a little spark exists in me as the full flame; and it
is my mission to develop every little spark of God in every one to the fulness
of the Divine flame.
The first imperative of this development is
that the receiver of the grace also provides from his or her side the devotion
necessary to the consummation. Those who carry the presence of Baba in their
hearts like an indwelling God belong to this kind of devotees. They come to me,
see me and hear me, experience my love for them and receive it with devotion.
Thus, they become part of me and my Divinity. Sathya Sai Baba to

Among the qualities that make up a flawless character, Love, Patience, Forbearance, Steadfastness, Charity - these are the highest, these have to be revered.
The hundred little deeds that we do every day harden into habits; these habits shape into intelligence and mould our outlook and life. All that we weave in our imagination, seek in our ideals, yearn in our aspirations, leave an indelible imprint on the mind. Distorted by these, we form our knowledge, our picture of the world around us, and it is to this picture that we get attached.
Man's present is but the result of his past and the habits formed during that long period. Whatever be the nature of the character that he has come by, it can certainly be modified by modifying the accustomed process of thought and imagination.

Envirocare Message Stick is the newsletter of the Australian Sai Organisation Envirocare Group, a group of devotees who promote the teachings of Sathya Sai Baba on the environment, focussing on the practice of human values and daily living with the Ceiling on Desires Program. External ecology indicates that climate change is induced by human activity. Internal ecology, practice of the five human values and using the Ceiling on Desires Program, leads to personal transformation and practice of precepts. Thus do Sathya Sai devotees model the changes they wish to see in the world.

Treat every one as your own people and even if you cannot do them any good, desist from causing them any injury. Burn the lamp of love inside the niche of your heart and then the nocturnal birds of greed and envy will fly away, unable to bear the light. Love makes you humble; it makes you bend and bow when you see greatness and glory. An unbending person is infected with egoism of the worst type; remember man is the only animal that can recognise and revere the great and the glorious. Use that capacity and derive the best advantage out of it. Sathya Sai Baba, 3 March 1958

I do not like people wasting the precious moments of their limited years of life in idle talk of vain pursuits. Nor do I like cowardly hesitation. Act; act with all your might and with all your mind; make full use of the skill, capacity courage and confidence that you are endowed with. Then God will bless you. You must have heard of a devotee of Rama who sat on the road side by his upturned cart, wailing his bad luck and calling on Rama to lift the cart into position. Rama did not appear to raise the cart and fix the wheel. He therefore began chiding his faith itself and to doubt the experience of the sages who describe Him as the Ocean of Mercy. Rama came into his presence then; but only to tell him. "You fool, I have entrusted you with some intelligence and strength. Use them. Put your shoulder to the task now before you. When you have done your best and that best is found not enough, then call on Me; I am ever ready to reinforce your exertions with My Grace.

Embodiments of Love!
Develop love. When we come into this world, it is only love that comes with us. From love comes truth. When love and truth come together, humanness finds its sustenance. The mansion of human life can be built with self-confidence as the foundation, self-satisfaction as pillars, and self-sacrifice as roof. Only then can you have self-realisation in life. If you want to have self-satisfaction, you should first have self-confidence. Without self-satisfaction, there can be no happiness in life. How can one who does not have confidence in themselves have confidence in others? People doubt anything and everything. Doubt endangers life. A person with doubts will not achieve anything in life. He will not have faith even in his wife and children. Therefore, first and foremost, develop faith.

On the day when Rama was crowned Emperor at Ayodhya, every personage got some present or other before leaving the city. Hanuman alone refused any material gift. He asked Rama to explain to him the mystery of His Life, which he had failed to understand in spite of the length and loyalty of his service. Rama then asked Sita to slake the thirst of Hanuman and reveal to him the secret of their careers. Sita announced that she was the Primal Nature, the Maya Sakthi, the Energy which agitates in all Matter, which transforms and transmutes it into all this variety that binds and blinds. The Ramayana, she said, was nothing but the play she designed. Sathya Sai Baba, 25 April 1961

The Love of the gopi's about which so much philosophical speculation and analysis was made before you is, let Me tell you, Sahaja prema—the genuine Love that is beyond physical awareness—that is unaffected by praise or blame. It is not like the thin filament of oil floating on water, which comes off on the finger when it is touched. It is like the lotus stalk, which penetrates deep down through all the layers of water into the soil underneath; but the leaf floats above, unaffected by the water which gives it the essential environment. Men and women should struggle similarly to rise above the sensory world which is their inevitable environment; the sensory world tempts you to strive for this triviality and that; but like the gopis, you should discard the hankering and fix your eye on the vitally precious fountain of joy. The manifest nature of the individual is moulded by desire. He shapes himself in line with his hopes, aspirations, attempts and achievements. Even his own future life is designed by him through his decisions and deeds. The force that his 'reason' exerts on him and which directs his will in specific directions is known as Prakrithi, or 'Nature'. When once it is discovered that one's own level of intelligence is the prime factor in determining one's inclinations and desires, then, it is easy to follow the means by which one can win release from the hold of "Prakrithi."
Karma is generally known to mean 'work'. Transactions and actions of all kinds can be designated as 'work'. There are no levels of work like low or high. All work is holy, if it has to be done for the upkeep and uplift of life. This is the reason why karma is praised as highly sacrosanct and desirable, and as fraught with meritorious or deleterious consequences.Sathya Sai Baba in Sathya Sai Vahini, Chapter 18, Activity and Action

In this world, there is Brahma for creation, Vishnu for protection and Siva for dissolution. But, for all these functions, the supreme head is Divinity itself. The Muslims call this principle, ALLAH. Every religious denomination has its own name for its perception of Divinity. But Indians and Westerners, all of us have a common term in English, GOD - G stands for Generation i.e. creation, O for Organization i.e. sustenance and D for Dissolution. Thus in this word God, all these three aspects, namely, creation, sustenance and dissolution are implied. Taking such evidence, people have been propagating the principle of divinity amongst themselves. Stated or unstated, Truth is truth. God exists. Where is He? He is omnipresent. He is in all forms. The Divinity present in humanity is self evident to everybody. The very fact that millions of you have come here today is the evidence of the love of God, which is primary. Love is the aim of all and there is no greater bliss than this. Sathya Sai Baba, 23 November 2000

The destiny of a nation or community is dependent on the moral
fibre of the people. Their character must be deep-rooted in Faith and in Truth:
Truth must be revealed as unity of Thought, Word and Deed. Jesus emphasised in
his teachings the importance of Faith and the damage and the danger of
hypocrisy. Joining both palms together and offering namsakar is an act of
dedication of one's thought and speech. The greeting "Salaam" too is a symbol
of surrendering all three.
Christ proclaimed that God is all
powerful and omnipresent, the One without a second. His teachings have to be
interpreted, understood and followed from the universal point of view. This
concept of God should not be narrowed down in an exclusive attitude of mind.
There is great need, in a world broken into racial and religious units, to
cultivate a broad outlook and large hearted attitudes. Sathya Sai Baba,

If the child gives up its mother, how can it grow? Keep attached to God, so that you may grow. Do not clip off the sprouts of faith in your heart or in the hearts of others. It is that Faith that gives poignancy to the yearning for God and which wins ready response. Raamamuurthy, who is here, called out "Swami" in that poignant sincerity when his wife's saree was in flames; she was too frightened to call Me. That call took Me to Aukiripalli and, though only a quarter of the saree was left unburnt, she was saved. Sathya Sai Baba, 25 November 1962

To live as a human is only a mediocre life. Man's aim should be to live as a Godly person. But man today is leading the life of an animal because of desires and hatred. Non fulfillment of one's desires results in hatred. The true nature of man is neither joy nor sorrow, but is Being-Awareness-Bliss that transcends both joy and sorrow, which are transient. Hence one should strive to experience this Being-Awareness-Bliss. Living in this vast universe, you should try to cultivate correspondingly broad feelings. But, misguided by the mind, people are harboring narrow feelings and thus making their lives miserable. The solution to this is to follow the guidance of the intellect, eschewing the vagaries of the mind. Sathya Sai Baba, 25 May 1993

When one does any action as an offering to God, it gets sanctified. Such an act becomes a desireless act. Every selfless act of devotion becomes an action free from the taint of desire. The second quality is purity. What is required is both internal and external purity. God cares only for internal purity of the mind.
The third quality is that the devotees should be steadfast and unwavering in any situation. With his mind firmly rooted in God, he should engage himself in service to others and perform actions in a spirit of detachment. Only such a devotee is eligible for God's love. He is unaffected by pleasure or pain, gain or loss or what happens in the mundane world. The fourth quality is indifference to external happenings. The fifth quality is freedom from egoism and possessiveness. One should get rid of the idea of doership and ownership and surrender everything to God Sathya Sai Baba, 3 October 1996

Imagine with what concentration Arjuna heard the Gita? His concentration was steady as that of the Gopis who listened to the Message of the Flute in Brindavan. He forgot the opposing armies, his own hatreds and enthusiasm for war and he became immersed in the teaching he secured. If you develop that single pointedness in the field of activity of your own particular 'battlefields', you can assuredly also listen to the Gita - the Bhagavad Gita or the Sai Gita or the Sathya Sai Gita, intended for you.Sathya Sai Baba, 27-9-1960

Coloured Completely by His Love
Moyia O'Brien and the late Dorothy O'Brien were well known to many devotees of Sai Baba, known as the Pink Twins, a name Baba gave to these ladies. Moiya O'Brien has been interviewed (and captured on Video) by the Heart to Heart team.
Baba says that His darshan is a blessing which even the gods of the highest heavens pine for. And anyone who has had His darshan will vouch for that! Every time we see Swami it feels special, however the first sight of Swami - the very first time we looked into His face - is such an overwhelming experience. So too it was for Moyia, one of the O'Brien twins from Australia, whom Swami lovingly referred to as 'the Pink Twins'.
Heart to Heart have interviewed Moiya O'Brien recently. You may view four short video clips on the Heart to Heart page, Coloured Completely by His Love.
Sathya Sai Baba's Samadhi
The word Mahasamadhi means not only the conscious departure from the physical body of a realised soul but also the shrine where the physical body is buried.
The three images above show the permanent Mahasamadhi of Sathya Sai Baba, which was unveiled on Guru Purnima, 15 July 2011. Click on one of the images to obtain a high-resolution version of it (2.6MB, 1.8MB, and 1.6MB, respectively) in a new window.
"In regard to every matter, my thoughts are always sublime and exemplary. You must note that Swami's life is in His own hands and not in those of anyone else. If I will it, I can live for as long as I please. I can also terminate it at will. It is my will that decides and not any other person. The reason is My purity, selflessness, and divinity. What other testimony is called for? The life of the pure hearted is in their own hands and not in those of others." Discourse, 3 July 1993

Do not get discouraged that you are not able to concentrate for long from the very beginning. When you learn to ride a bicycle, you do not get the skill of keeping the balance immediately. You push the cycle along to an open space and hop and skip, leaning now to one side and now to the other and even fall with the cycle upon you on many an attempt before you are able to ride with skill and never again to worry about the balance. Automatically, you are able to make the necessary adjustments to correct the balance, aren't you? After getting this skill, you can ride through the narrow streets and lanes and you do not need an open space; you can negotiate your vehicle through the most crowded thoroughfares. So too practice will equip you with a concentration that will sustain you in the densest of surroundings and the most difficult situations.Sathya Sai Baba, 23-2-1958

The chief source of Ananda (Bliss) is dedication to God; nothing else can give that genuine and lasting joy. Become conscious of your kinship with the Lord. That kinship is not a mere fancy or a faked theory. It has come down since ages, from the beginning of Time itself. It will persist till the very end of Time, or, in other words, till the end of Time so far as you are concerned. The river is carrying all the waters of all the tributary streams relentlessly to the sea. What you have to propagate to the world is love alone. Nothing exists other than love in this world. Love is God. Love is life and love is everything. So, cultivate love more and more. Let your mind not waver under any circumstances. A wavering mind becomes unsacred. That is why Thyagaraja once sang, "O mind, do not waver, and do not get deluded. You suffer because of delusion."
Consider love as your very life. Love alone makes one's life sacred. One with love alone is a true human being. Love is man. Man is love. Man is God and God is love. It is love that unifies all. So, develop love. Tread the path of truth and righteousness and lead a peaceful life. These four values are the life supporting principles. There are no greater powers, no greater ideals, and no greater supports than these human values of Turth, Right Conduct, Peace and Love. Adhere to these four values and carry on with your life sojourn. Sathya Sai Baba, 25 December 2000

Sai Young Adults in Prashanti Nilayam
Sai Kulwant Hall, Prashanti Nilyam - Monday 25 July
Taking a leaf of inspiration from Bhagawan, carrying the mantle of His precious Divine Teachings, a group of youth from Australia under the banner, Sai Youth Australia, staged a musical programme in the Sai Kulwant Hall this evening. The programme commenced at the end of half-an-hour Vedam chanting, just after 1700 hrs, with customary offering at Bhagawan's Maha Samadhi.
Archived Items 2009-2008
Beginning with an invocatory song in Telugu, "Premamurthini Swagatham..." the group continued with "Sathya Sai We Love You..." before bursting into a commentary, dwelling upon, reminding themselves of Bhagawan's advice during the group's previous visit last year, to share love with all. With this they sang "Swami, We Are Your Youth Autralia..." that was followed by an often heard Telugu number. One more Telugu song followed, that glorified the importance of service, yet another
familiar song, "Sai Maatha Biddalame Andharam..." which was followed by a "Qawwali "Meri Muhabbat Mera Khuda Hey...". The group ended the programme, expressing gratitude to Bhagawan, praying for continued guidance to move in the path shown by Him, following His advice "service begins at home...". Students took over to sing bhajans for the next fifteen minutes before Mangala Arathi at 1800 hrs. Special Prasadam was distributed at the end of the programme.
The group from Australia comprised of around sixty members, 35 ladies and 25 gents.

How can you expect quick success in the control of the mind? It is very difficult to overcome its vagaries, for it is many-faced and very adamant. You are unable to understand Nature, which is a reflection, a shadow of God; how then can you understand God himself? No. Steady perseverance alone will tame your mind; and it is only through a tamed mind that you can experience God.
In this case, you must become your own tutor; train yourself by using the spark of wisdom that has been implanted in you. Once you try with all your might, the Lord's Grace will be there to help you forward. Sathya Sai Baba, 23-4-1961

Legacy of Truth
Devotees of Sathya Sai Baba along with well wishers and admirers of the works and teachings of Sathya Sai Baba have been assailed by recent extraordinary claims in the media about discoveries of cash, jewellery and other values in the living premises of Sathya Sai Baba. Several press meets have been conducted and media releases have been issued in order that all may know the truth with regard to these matters. Media Releases are available for your reading on the Central Trust Website.
The Central Trust has placed an insert in the newspapers clarifying these matters, exposing myths perpetrated by Media, and focussing on the good works for all mankind put in place by Sathya Sai Baba. You may download the Eternal Legacy, (PDF, 3.4MB) prepared by the Sri Sathya Sai Central Trust.

It is no use indulging in arguments and disputations; he who clamours aloud has not grasped the truth, believe Me. Silence is the only language of the realised. Practise moderation in speech. That will help you in many ways. It will develop Love, for most misunderstandings and factions arise out of carelessly spoken words. When the foot slips, the wound can be healed; but when the tongue slips, the wound it causes in the heart of another will fester for life. The tongue is liable to four big errors: uttering falsehood, scandalising, finding fault with others and excessive articulation. These have to be avoided if there has to be Peace for the individual as well as for society. The bond of brotherhood will be tightened if people speak less and speak sweet. That is why Silence was prescribed as a vow for spiritual aspirants by the Scriptures. You are all spiritual aspirants at various stages of the road and so this discipline is valuable for you also. You should try to know the ways and means to adhere to truth in daily life. Without recognizing the path of truth, people undertake spiritual practices like prayer, meditation and Yoga. But this is not enough. In addition to the spiritual practices, you should also nurture good feelings. Good qualities, good feelings, good acts and good thoughts should manifest in you. These are natural divine traits. Sathya Sai Baba, 5 March 2000

The Lord too condescends to grant you the chance to develop faith. Why did Krishna raise the Govardhana Hill and keep it aloft? It was to announce His Truth and His Nature, to instil Faith and to implant courage. It is just a sign, as is each one of My acts. There is no task which I cannot accomplish, remember; no weight I cannot lift. You have faith in Rama and Krishna because of the books which describe a part of their achievements and the experience of the Sadhakas who attempted to delve into their Mystery. You have not demanded direct Proofs of Divinity from either Rama or Krishna, have you? Have faith first and then you will get proof enough. Take up the discipline of the recital of the Name.Sathya Sai Baba, 22 October 1961

There are four things in which every man must interest himself:
- Who am I?
- Where have I come from?
- Whither am I going?
- How long shall I be here?
The Four Vedas give the answers to these four questions. All spiritual inquiry begins with these questions and attempts to find out the answers. Suppose there is a letter put into the post box without the address to which it should go or the address from which it has come. It will not reach anywhere. It is a waste to have written it. So too, it is a waste to have come into this world, if it is not known where you came from and where you go to. The letter will go to the dead letter office! The individual will be caught in the cycle of birth and death and can never find itself. For this, enquiry into the self, and for the successful arrival at the correct answers, spiritual effort is essential. The answers must become part of your experience.Sathya Sai Baba, 25 June 1960

Everyone should consider adherence to truth as the greatest deed
they can perform. Truth and right conduct are most important in the life of
every human being. Youth, in particular, should strictly adhere to these
virtues. What is truth? It means harmony of thought, word and deed. Wherever
these three are in harmony, there you find Truth.
You should not say
one thing on the platform, but have something else in your mind, and finally
act in a totally different manner from what you spoke and thought.Sathya

Easwaramma Day celebrations: Adelaide, South Australia
Easwaramma Day celebrations were held at the Vale Park Centre, Adelaide, South Australia on 6th of May 2011. The program was essentially run by the SSE children, which included Master of Ceremonies, presentations, play and devotional singing. About 84 people attended the session. Cakes were distributed to the homeless as a service activity. Also, a few devotees donated blood to mark the occasion.
The celebrations outlined the different aspects of Mother - Mother Easwaramma - The Chosen Mother, Divine Mother, Physical Mother and Mother Earth. Each aspect was represented by different wings.
The celebrations started with 3 minutes of silence to offer our respects to Swami on the Thirteenth day since he had left His physical form.
It was followed by a talk on Mother Easwaramma by a representative from the Ladies wing. The talk outlined the relationship between Swami and His mother Easwaramma. It symbolized that no matter how old the child is or who the child is, a Mother is always a mother all the time concerned with the welfare of her children.
A Youth representatives spoke of her personal experience at Prashanti Nilayam in February 2011, wherein Swami as Divine Mother was responding to her thoughts during darshan.
Another youth representative highlighted the physical mother aspect with a talk. He described how our physical mother is our first teacher and how the Vedas teach us to treat our mother as God. He also referred to one of Swami's quotes.
"Mothers are the teachers of a generation; a dedicated mother can offer the world children who strive for righteousness and a better future for all of humanity. When a mother is true, brave, kind and compassionate, the entire world will experience peace and joy. A mother's love for her child is often the closest thing to divine unconditional love that one may experience in their everyday life".
To conclude the presentations the SSE students presented a play representing the Mother Earth aspect. The play highlighted how we as humans are disrespectful of what we have been given, how we are harming the nature and how this will come back and affect us. Take home message was for each one of us to take a measure to protect and respect Mother Earth.
All the Mothers were presented with a little offering by the younger SSE students.
The celebrations ended with devotional singing led by SSE children. Final rites of waving the flame and giving of vibhuti were conducted by the children. This was followed by a sumptuous evening meal.

Sathya, Truth relates not only to what is factually correct, but what is true for all time. Moreover, truthful speech must be both pleasing and beneficial to the person concerned. It should not excite passion or promote ill-will. You should not indulge in falsehood to please others. Sathya Sai Speaks, Vol 22, Ch 26.

Today, the typhoon of hatred and falsehood is scattering the clouds of Virtue, Justice and Truth to the far corners of the sky and people feel that the Eternal Order (called Sanathana Dharma) itself is in danger of extinction. But that can happen only if the Lord wills, and the Lord who has laid down the Dharma will not allow it to be destroyed.
Wherever Truth, Righteousness and Virtue, Peace and Love are emphasised, in whatever religion or language, by whichever teacher wherever he may be, there we have Sanathana Dharma. So long as man is capable of Love, Righteousness and Virtue will exist, do not doubt it. When that Love is fixed on the Lord, your mental make-up will slowly and steadily undergo a revolutionary change; then man will share in the sorrows and joys of his fellow-beings; thereafter, he contacts the very source of the Bliss that is beyond the temporary gains and losses of this world. Love directed to the Lord is called Devotion and it is the easiest of all paths to realise the Goal. Sathya Sai Baba, 24 March 1958, Myalpore.

A doubt may arise, whether it is at all possible to forget oneself and believe that one is something else. The acceptance of Truth polluted with Untruth is the sign of the ignorant person. In the dusk, falsehood is superimposed on Truth; the serpent is visualised on the rope, lying on the road. The delusion affects the consciousness and warps the intellect, so that they forget their genuine nature which is bliss or ecstatic delight. They impose on themselves the limitations of individuality and consider themselves as individuals. They welcome the belief that happiness is outside them in the objective world and they entangle themselves - the ocean of suffering, the moving, changing, restless world. They suffer the twin blows of fate and fortune. Such persons are taught by the beginningless scriptures and sacred texts, to transform their lives through consistent endeavour for knowing and realising the divinity within. Sathya Sai Vahini.

Envirocare Message Stick
Envirocare Message Stick is the newsletter of the Australian Sai Organisation Envirocare Group, a group of devotees who promote the teachings of Sathya Sai Baba on the environment, focussing on the practice of human values and daily living with the Ceiling on Desires Program. External ecology indicates that climate change is induced by human activity. Internal ecology, practice of the five human values and using the Ceiling on Desires Program, leads to personal transformation and practice of precepts. Thus do Sathya Sai devotees model the changes they wish to see in the world.

The teachings of Buddha are lofty, sublime and sacred. The principal teaching of Buddha is non-violence is the highest Dharma. Buddha exhorted the people to cultivate purity of vision. It is only by cultivating pure vision that you can lead a pure life. You should cultivate Samyak Drishti (right vision), Samyak Sravanam (right listening), Samyak Bhavam (right feelings), Samyak Vak (right speech), Samyak Jivanam (right life) etc. Buddha emphasized goodness in everything in life. First of all, one should develop right vision. If the vision is good and pure, the thoughts will also be pure. If you throw a pebble in a lake, it will create ripples. How far will the ripples spread? They will go up to the edge of the lake. In the same way, cast the pebble of good thoughts in the lake of your heart. The ripples of good thoughts will then express themselves through all parts of your body, viz., eyes, ears, hands, legs, etc. When these ripples of good thoughts go to the eyes, you will see only good, when they go to the ears, you will hear only good, when they go to the tongue, you will speak only good, when they go to the hands, they will perform only good deeds, when they go to the legs, the legs wilt go only to good places. Thus, the lake of the human body becomes full of ripples of pure thoughts, purifying the body from top to toe. Hence, cultivate Samyak Drishti (right vision).Sathya Sai Baba, 21 May 2000

Children of Immortality available, Free Download
The book Children of Immortality, An exploration of the teachings of Sathya Sai Baba on Loss and Death was co-authored by two Australian ladies, Jenny Monson and Margaret Hennekeler. This book was launched at the Sai National Conference in Brisbane, 2010. This small book examines the teachings given by Swami on Loss and Death. A review of this book can be read here.
In the foreword, Sathya Sai Human Values educator Ron Farmer writes:
When grief comes our first reaction is like that of a fish out of water - we struggle and strain, exhausting ourselves in a desperate search for some diminishing of our pain. Throughout the unfolding pathos, the immeasurable and timeless Witness within us all waits silently and patiently for the culmination of our fervent endeavours. Somehow, by God?s grace or mysterious design, we are relieved of some of our aching emptiness, and we taste once more a drop of the liquid gold of our inherent peace, love and joy.
The authors have donated this book to the Ashram Bookshop, and it is on sale. The authors have also graciously made available a free version of this book for your reading, in PDF format.

The Passing of Sri Sathya Sai Baba from his physical form
On morning of 24 April 2011, official advice has been given that our Beloved Sai Avatar departed his body at 7.40am (Indian Time) 24th April 2011.
His body will lie in state at Sai Kalwant Hall for two days - Monday and Tuesday.
The passing of Sri Sathya Sai Baba is a momentous event for the tens of
millions of His devotees around the world.
Understandably we may experience a sense of loss at this time. We may be inclined to grieve in the usual manner. Some years ago when Baba had 'taken on an illness' He advised His devotees not to grieve for Him, as this would make Him unhappy.
His life has been one unprecedented stream of Divine Love and Service. His discourses will provide humanity with wisdom and guidance of a quality and breadth not seen before in the history of the world. They will become the Holy Scriptures for millions for centuries to come.
Our primary task at this time is to keep our focus on the Sai who is in our hearts. The Sai who will always be there, prompting, warning, and inspiring us as we journey through life.
Sri Sathya Sai Baba has advised on many occasions: "First the form, then the formless", and so our journey from "Head to Heart" may now proceed with a new intensity.
My prayer is that devotees do not become overly emotional or stressed at this time of His passing, for He is ever with us, and our Hearts are filled with His Love.
Celebratory Events
All Regions are requested to organise a special event to celebrate the Life and Teachings of our beloved Lord, Sri Sathya Sai Baba. An event where we can publicly express our gratitude for His Divine Life ,His Divine Teachings and His Divine Love for humanity.
This service may be held on Tuesday 26th April if satisfactory arrangements can be put in place in time or otherwise on the following weekend.
Please the message below from our International Zone Chair Dr Pal Dhall, intended for all devotees of Zone 3. Dr Pal Dhall will be leaving in the morning for Puttaparthi to represent the countries in his Zone.
Yours in Sai Service

Message of International Zone 3 Coordinator
Dear Devotees of Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba,
It is with a heavy heart that we learnt that Bhagavan decided on Mahasamadhi today. He leaves a huge hole in our lives which is not possible to fill. It is natural and understandable that as devotees we are distressed and stricken with grief. Bhagavan was and will always be the centre of our very being.
He touched our lives individually and in the most beautiful and gentle manner, filling us with faith when we had doubts, with hope when we were distressed, with Divine love and joy when we were down with confusion or were perplexed. He showed us the path and the goal to a blessed life; He gave meaning and purpose to our lives. Being His devotees with whom He chose to entrust the future of His Divine Mission also carries responsibilities that we continue to serve Him with the same enthusiasm that we have served Him in the past.
It is my sacred duty to ask you to focus and remember Him alive and well in your hearts rather than spending days in grief. In the heart is where He resides as Living God. He had manifested Himself physically only for this exact purpose. He has left His body but He will always be in our hearts, not just
in this life but in all the lives we will have in the future into eternity. The best manner in which we can serve Him now is to continue with His Divine work. This should start even while His Samadhi for the physical body is being made ready in Sai Kulwant Hall.
I request the heads of all the countries in the Zone 3 to hold meetings during the coming week for the devotees to share how Bhagavan changed their lives and bestowed His blessings. Let us recall His life with gratitude for the wonder of His Divine Love, for the miracles He brought into our lives, for the gift of His Darshans, Sparshans and Sambhashans and His unceasing uplift - when we were down and when we faced dark hours. His reality is His Cosmic nature - He manifested Himself for a while to help those He chose as His devotees and also those who were the recipients of His benediction and not His devotees.
He is and always will be here in the Omnipresence, Omnipotence and Omniscience. His Mission has been and continues to be to awaken us to our own reality as Divine sparks and to lead lives in this realisation. His wish and His mission is for us to live God centred lives. Let us rededicate ourselves to His Divine Mission of universal unconditional Love with renewed vigour and energy. Let us continue with the work for which He prepared us with so much love. And let us start this now by recalling Him in all His Divine glory as our Lord, the Poorna Avatar of Kaliyuga who spared nothing to bring us closer to our own Divine nature. We are privileged to be part of His organisation and to have been touched by Him.
Much Love to all the devotees in Zone 3.

"My suggestion to you today is this: just as you attend to the
needs of the body, feeding it three times a day in order to keep it in good
running condition, so too, spend some time regularly everyday to keep your
inner Consciousness also in good trim. Spend one hour in the morning, another
at night and a third in the early hours of dawn, the Brahma muhurtham
(early hours of the morning, between 3am and 6am) as it is called, for giving love to and meditating upon the Lord. You will find great peace descending on you and great new sources of strength welling up within you as you progress in this spiritual activity. After some time, the mind will dwell on the Name whatever you are and wherever you are engaged in; and then, Peace and joy will be your inseparable companions." Sathya Sai Baba, 25-3-1958

"Every thought, word, and deed has to come from an enlightened consciousness. Do not let your mind wander; let it dwell constantly in the inner world. This is the inward quest, and meditation (dhyana) is the most important instrument needed for this. The spiritual aspirant must enter the inner quest through the gate of introspection. That gate will accord welcome into the highest and holiest awareness possible in life to every aspirant who is endowed with humility and devotion."

Christchurch Earthquake, New Zealand
The February 2011 Christchurch earthquake was five times more damaging than
the September 2010 earthquake in that city and has so far claimed the lives of
165 people. This number is expected to rise as more areas are cleared of the
rubble. Hundreds of people from Australia, New Zealand and other countries
trained in specialist rescue worked around the clock and were successful in
saving many lives. We extend our love and light to families and individuals
impacted by the recent earthquake. Sai centres and groups are encouraged to
dedicate their next devotional meeting to remember the citizens of Christchurch
who are currently living under such a cloud of uncertainty.
The Sathya Sai Centre in Christchurch is providing medical service, food and
clothing for those who have moved to temporary shelters in Christchurch. The
New Zealand Ministry of Social Development had requested the New Zealand Sai
Organisation to provide meals for about 50 Bhutanese from Christchurch who are
temporarily housed in Auckland. The Sai Organisation has also organised
counselling for trauma victims among the Bhutanese in their care. The New
Zealand Sai Organisation will continue to serve the victims both in
Christchurch and those temporarily housed in other areas for some time.
Devotees may contact their Centre or Group Chair for more information.

This concept that everything is God is slowly starting to sink in
after so many years of practising L@W. Swami is giving me glimpses of this
Truth. I had an interview at work. While I was waiting for the panel I told
Swami "Everything is You, so why fear or plan anything, it is all perfect". My
mind started racing initially when I saw the questionnaire but I stopped and
reminded myself that it is all as it is meant to be. I took my time to answer
the questions. The interview went on beautifully, like clockwork. While it was
going on I felt it was not the body answering the questions; THAT was. As I
left I truly felt that it didn't matter whether or not I got the job, it was
the process that was important. Love@Work

You may take into consideration any workplace. Progress is possible only when there is cooperation. Cooperation should be such that there should be relationship between heart to heart. Whatever work we are doing, we should first understand it thoroughly.
All are one, be alike to everyone. All should work with unity. One may write the book, another may print it, and yet another may bind the book. But there should be cooperation and unity between all the departments. Only when all work in unity can we get the desired result.
When can you develop unity? You can develop unity when there is purity. How can you develop purity? If there are any negative feelings in the mind, purity is not possible. First of all, there should be unity. Where there is unity, there is purity. Where there is purity, divinity will manifest. So, first of all develop unity and purity. Then you will attain the grace of divinity. Sathya Sai Baba, 24 August 2007, Prashanti Nilayam

Nation building role for Sathya Sai Primary School
The philosophy of Sathya Sai Education continues to spread around the world,
the most recent news coming from Indonesia. As reported in the Sanathana
Sarathi, the President, having recognized the contribution of Sri Sathya Sai
schools to society had decided that all schools in Indonesia organize training
and implement Sathya Sai Education.
This is a clear example of the effective role that model Sathya Sai EHV
schools can have in positively influencing educators and public policymakers
towards the nationwide adoption of Education in Human Values.
In Australia, Baba blessed the Murwillumbah school project with His words of
wisdom and by giving His robe. Over the last 13 years, the school has
established itself and has grown to a Kindergarten to Grade Six Primary School
with a current enrolment of over 100 pupils. The school uses the NSW Board of
Studies curriculum guidelines integrated with Human Values.
Our vision is to create a model school, which will develop a curriculum and
teaching resource material based on Human Values, making this available to all
educators free of charge.
The completion of the school building work last year is a further step in
the advancement of this mission. This nation building vision continues to be
the primary service project for the Sathya Sai Organisation of Australia and
PNG.
Education at the Sai School is tuition free, in conformity with our Founder's philosophy.
The Sai School Service committee along with senior staff of the Institute of Sathya Sai Education and leaders from Sathya Sai Organisation will be visiting
Centres and Regions throughout Australia to launch awareness of the nation building vision of the Sathya Sai Primary School. The National Wing Coordinators for Service, Ladies and Youth have enthusiastically agreed to support the Sai School Service Committee in this awareness program.
All Work is My Work - Love@Work Bulletin №151
Human beings believe that their life span is long, so without knowing the basic Truth, they go on planning. But truly, God is the only one who plans, thus the "Masterplan" is known only to Him. Thus, discharge your duties and do service with faith in God. How should you conduct your life? There is no use to do penance that involves physical exertion or strain; penance means giving up dullness and laziness. Man goes on spiritual pilgrimages such as to Rishikesh to experience the Divine. To partake in a pilgrimage is an expression of devotion. The presence of a sacred river such as the Ganges flowing from the Himalayas, and the sacred places like Kasi, Prayag, Rishikesh denote pilgrimage centres. Unfortunately, devotion today, even on a pilgrimage, is filled with worldly thoughts. There is no use to have negative thoughts. Since man is having so much negativity, he is unable to experience the positive Divinity in life. Man should have sacred ideals. The sacred texts, the Shastras, command you to practice Truth and obey the commands of God. Sathya Sai Baba, 23 April 1996, Kodaikanal

Koham? Who am I?", "Why this feeling in me, that I am the doer?", "What is the nature of consciousness that I am the enjoyer?", "Why be born, and die at last?", "How did I deserve this life?", "Can I be liberated from this Samsar, this series of entrances and exits". The attempt to discover answers to these questions is what the rishis of old designated as "tapas"(asceticsm). When the intellect of the individual ripens into this steady inquiry, he enters the path of 'tapas' (asceticism).
This is the first step. As soon as man has ascended this step, the Sastras or the collective wisdom of seekers enshrined in sacred texts, welcome him. The Sruthi, or the Vedas, directs him to 'listen, ruminate, and practise' the axiomatic counsel of the sages. They assure him that he will attain the goal of release, and free himself from the delusive fascination for the visible world, portrayed for him by his own mind. Sathya Sai Vahini

Queensland Floods
The recent floods in the state of Queensland have caused massive loss of property, and the number of lives lost is on the increase. In living memory, this is the worst natural disaster the residents of Queensland have experienced.
Our love and prayers are with all in areas of Bundaberg, Rockhampton, Caboolture, Gympie, Brisbane, the Lokyer Valley outside of Brisbane, Maryborough, St George, Diranbandi, Grantham, Toowoomba and other areas affected.
These are times of challenge for all Australians.
The Commonwealth and Queensland State Governments have commandeered all
resources at their disposal to offer assistance to the victims. They have also set up a flood relief fund and many Australians are donating to this fund.
We urge all devotees in Queensland who are not affected by the floods and in a position to offer heart to heart service to do so in this hour of need.
Sai devotees who are interested in providing assistance are requested to send their donations through the established funds announced in the media.
Swami has emphasised the value of prayer and we request all devotees to intensely pray for the well-being of those affected by the floods.
Once the floods subside, long term assistance will be required by those affected to re-establish their lives.
Proposals for service projects in these flood-affected regions have been called for. All devotees will be provided details of the selected projects and those desiring to assist may do so with the resources required.
